Está formada por la desembocadura del río Eume, sus aguas bañan los municipios de Ares, Cabanas y Pontedeume. Dandole su nombre el pueblo de Ares capitalidad del municipio homónimo, se abre también el puerto de Redes, en el mismo municipio.
